News from Stone the Crows

A big day and a Lancashire Encounter, Sept 2016

A little over a year ago we celebrated our 21st birthday in style with a weekend of dance and an attempt to make history. The Guinness World Record for the most morrris dancers performing together stood at 88 dancers, and we were assisted by Morris sides from across Britain to try and break it.

On a sunny Saturday in Preston, we and our friends descended upon the Flag Market to make the attempt, and with a little help from our friends we broke the record with 144 dancers performing Tinner’s Rabbit in front of great crowds. The Mayor of Preston supported us, handing out the numbered ribbons to dancers as they entered the arena.

Today we’re back in Preston as part of Lancashire Encounter Festival, and again joined by many local sides including Amounderness, Leyland Morris, Mucky Mountains, Newburgh Morris,  Fylde Coast Cloggers to bring traditions new and old back to Preston, and to recreate the dance the that took us into the record books.

Join us on Saturday the 24th September and you will see many of the traditional dance forms from our region, and our own tradition, Border Morris, which comes from the Welsh border counties of Shropshire, Worcestershire and Herefordshire.

We will be dancing throughout the day, and at 3pm we will be presented with our Guinness World Record by the Deputy Mayor, ahead of the massed dance, with all the sides taking part.
